This griddle is described as enamel coated and easy to clean. Ive had some cast iron skillets for decades and bought even older ones at flea markets. I have a 10 inch cast iron skillet that was stored for a decade and rusted when I found it again and just took a sander to it, re-seasoned it and it is a breeze to clean.I bought this as it is the perfect size for cooking meat on my Weber Kettle where the bare grates just don't fit in my kitchen sink for cleanup. But based on the description and instructions for this skillet, I did not season it and it was a bear to clean compared to a properly seasoned cast iron skillet. If it was enamel coated it doesn't look or function any differently than unseasoned cast iron cookware. I'm guessing it is not enamel-coated, or at least the one I received, was not. I will season this griddle and hope that next time it takes a lot less elbow grease to clean. I will try to do a followup on my review at that point. This is great.First, I thought it was affordable as a Weber accessory.Second, it works GREAT as intended. My number one use is for peppers and onions which will then be used with grilled fajita meat. It is just nice to get the complete contact heat from this with no concern about fall-through. It can be VERY not, so make sure you have nice long utensils. I definitely need to get some of those gloves for using this.Third, those nice lifted handles, make it fairly easy get off of the hot grill. I use my oven mitts, but again, plan to get some better grill gloves for it. I'd say that's a must if you plan to remove this piece in the midst of a grill session.Fourth, and perhaps my favorite aspect. The fact that it is porcelain covered is a HUGE plus...when I remove it from the hot grill to put my grate back on, this gets set down on the cement. It's hot. So, if I forget it that night, and it rains....there is no risk of rust. Believe me, I left it outside for 3 weeks and was expecting some tiny breach in the porcelain coating, but there was none. And, you cannot see this coating, or even tell that it's there. I already knew I liked porcelain coated black cast iron...I have a few Staub pieces that are like this.Fifth...SO VERSATILE! I've been able to use this inside the house on stove top, and also in the oven. A Lowcarb/keto tortilla pizza that go from the stovetop to your hottest oven a la Kenji López-Alt of Serious Eats is the bomb.Nice versatile piece of grill gearUsed to make smash burgers and worked perfectly, easy to clean and season. Awesome product!Described as having a porcelain enamel finish, the finish of the “Weber 7421 Gourmet BBQ System Griddle” is not like some porcelain/enameled, cast-iron cookware. Instead, the griddle has a pebbled finish. It is very heavy and should last for many years. The diameter, including the handles, is qpproximately 15 ½”; the interior is approximately 1” deep and about 11 5/8” in diameter. The “Weber 7421 Gourmet BBQ System Griddle” has been very useful for grilling fish and for vegetables. We do use Weber’s Grill Spray to prevent sticking when cooking potatoes. That spray has no effect on the taste of foods and does not burn or flare-up under high heat grilling temperatures. This griddle does not need to be seasoned. Doing so results in a sticky residue that is difficult to remove; further, seasoning does nothing that will benefit or make your grilling easier. Having mistakenly followed one reviewer’s advice about seasoning the griddle, I am still scrubbing the “baked on” oil from its interior. Once the griddle has cooled, I found that cooked-on foods clean off with just a short soaking. We preheat the griddle for 5 minutes; the same amount of time that we preheat our gas grill. The instructions included with the griddle direct the user to preheat the griddle for 15 minutes. If you desire a good crusty sear on your meats, this is probably the correct amount of preheat time. However, the griddle becomes hot enough in five minutes to grill salmon, trout, or various vegetables. The interior diameter of the “Weber 7421 Gourmet BBQ System Griddle” is approximately 11 5/8”; it is about 1” deep. The griddle fits on a Weber Genesis Gas Grill and leaves enough room for grilling meal. If you need a griddle that does not cover your entire grill surface, you may like this product.Getting ready to go camping with the wife. Buying camping gear.i love this! it is so versatile...i use it on the grill of course, but use it on the stove as well. searing meat, making vegetables, pancakes...this does it all. it is cast iron, but it is porcelain coated and cleans up easy. you will want to get some barbeque high temp gloves to pick it up off the grill or out of the oven, but this is the most used accessory in my Weber arsenal. Having a rolled steel griddle, i didn't think i would use this much...but the size and portability make it very handy and useful to use.So writing a review about a skillet seems strange, but I need to pass along that I'm using this with an old Genesis Silver C that is still going strong because of annual maintenance. I don't have the fancy new Weber with the hole in the grates that this is "designed" for. I'm using it straight up on one side of the grill and it fits perfect which leaves me with plenty of room on the other side. It is great for fajitas, bacon, eggs.... anything really. And for 39 bucks it is very economical when it comes to pricing for a cast iron skillet. Just keep it clean and lightly oiled and it adds a whole lot more of versatility to the grill.Erst dachte ich "wie doof" eine runde Plancha und aussenrum wird der Raum eng. aber die Pfannennutzung fand ich dann doch ganz spannend und hab sie angeschafft. Was gut so war. Despite instructions saying the griddle didn't need seasoning before use - it did. Once I'd seasoned it well it was great. I pour water onto it after use for a short while, dry thoroughly then rub a small amount of vegetable oil all over - inside and out - then it's ready to use again. The more we use it the better it gets. Brilliant.Product is exactly what I wanted and ordered but as it was for a Christmas present I was disappointed when it arrived and had clearly not been handled correctly - box was soaking wet and awful. However Supplier has rectified this for me and I now have a new box and they have included a pair of gloves for it. They could mot have done better in the end.I have a Weber Original Kettle Charcoal BBQ and this griddle fits perfectly, with ample room around the circumference. I haven't used it yet so can't comment about that but the griddle appears to be of a very good quality cast iron. Packaging was excellent but bear in mine that it is heavy for its size. Can't wait to use it and expand on items to BBQ.This is brilliant! possibly expensive for what it is but with the weber gurantee and the quality worth it!NOTE: no need to season. The enamel layer provides non stick.
