My Hunt globally for a well designed and performing pepper mill may be over. I have been seeking a peppermill that will grind reliably and voluminously their product. Due to good deign, this guy delivers in many ways. First I will applaud their decision to design this to use AA batteries rather than the AAA design that almost everyone else uses. This is critical, because you can't have a beefy motor to grind with wimpier less capacity batteries. AA and AAA both deliver at approximately 1.5v. But, what distinguishes them is that the AA can deliver more amps than the AAA and thus you can have a grinder with more "horsepower." This grinder can really put out the pepper or salt without having you sit there awkwardly holding it for what seems an unreasonably long time. In addition, the motor noise is a lower frequency grumbling noise versus the competitors high pitched squeal which I find more annoying. The styling is attractive, with a lower matted black rubber like grip with a stainless steel decorative ring. The outward taper of the lower part offers the needed greater stability for a tall appliance. The upper unit houses the product reservoir and grinder/dispenser components. The unit intuitively comes apart with the Lefty/loosey twist to open. The upper unit pulls out completely with the battery unit. The upper unit is capped with a decorative stainless steel lined plastic lid, which prevents any spillage if unit is knocked over and also hides the unsightly grinder mechanism when not in use. Now the negative (and negative is a stretch). The unit is advertised as one-handed. This is not possible, since you need to use your other free hand to remove the lid before use...yes yes, I know, petty, but just a point of order if you please. Secondly two things of the reservoir is detracting. The reservoir is small, so you may be finding yourself refilling more often then you like, especially, if you are like me, you enjoy loads of pepper. The opening of the reservoir is a narrow diameter compared with the competitors, so getting the product in there is a bit trickier; not a deal breaker, but worth noting. Removing the reservoir to fill is not intuitive but scarily must be removed by force. Once you figure it out then you'll be comfortable, but the first time you'll feel that you may just break it. The "led" light is probably not LED, it clearly glows very yellow like a standard incandescent rather than the cooler temp LED spectrum; but who cares, the light works and does its job. I'll be reporting back in a year about its longevity and battery usage.----------Update #2----------After about about 6 months, the replacement mill started working inconsistently like the first one I had (it was like clockwork because that is when my first one did the same thing). Eventually, it bit the dust altogether. Very disappointed in this mill. I still have to give kudos for the customer service, but I won't be buying another Ozeri.----------Update #1----------After this review, someone from the company commented and offered to send me a new pepper mill. I responded to the email address, and sent my name and order ID (per the company's request). Within a week, I received a new pepper mill in the mail. They also sent a return label so that I can send my old pepper mill back, free of charge - if someone from the company is reading this, it will be in the mail tomorrow :-)So far, the pepper mill seems to be working well. But, my old one did for a while too. So, I'll have to wait and see how this one does. But, in the meantime, I have to give Ozeri MAJOR KUDOS for their wonderful customer service. Good customer service is hard to come by nowadays. And, I think many of us have a tendency to complain when there is bad customer service. For good measure, I wanted to take the time to compliment good customer service.THANK YOU, OZERI!!!----------Original Review----------I used to own the The reservoir that holds peppercorns is small and awkward to fill. The curved lid looks nice but is annoying to use. I prefer the old fashioned manual grinders to this one.Not massively impressed to be honest. I was expecting a veritable powerhouse of a grinder capable of producing copious quantities of perfectly ground pepper in effortless fashion, causing onlookers to simultaneously sneeze and step back in amazement, but instead it makes a sound like an asthmatic trying to handcrank a high compression diesel engine into life. In short, while it’s okay if you fancy a light dusting on your cucumber sangers, for all other tasks that involve more generous amounts it struggles to cope with the basic task of grinding pepper - a feature, I would venture, that should rank highly on any product bearing the words ‘Pepper Grinder’ in its description. I will wait for it to die a death and look for something more robust and with a lot more grunt under the bonnet. There's a big choice of electric pepper mills available & I did my research. Ozeri consistently popped as a brand offering great quality & design at affordable prices. With this particular model, all you need to do is take off the nicely designed cap, turn it upside down & the efficient ceramic grinder starts to grind the peppercorns. The ground pepper comes out at a nice rate, not too slow & not too fast.To help direct your aim, a light also comes on automatically. When you've finished, just turn it upright again & replace the cap.Filling the grinder is a straightforward too & you can adjust the grind to suit your taste from coarse to fine. The overall design is very nice indeed & will certainly look good on the dinner table where it will no doubt impress your friends with its looks & novel operation. You can always see how many peppercorns you have left as the container is clear. It's more than big enough for me but maybe if you're a heavy pepper user, you might find you have to fill it fairly frequently. In summary, the Ozeri Graviti Pro is excellent value for money & rates as one of the best available.I have used electric mills for years and my last set were gravity ones. I bought two of these, one each for salt and pepper. What a great disappointment. The salt one ruined my visitors meals as the ground salt collects around the exit and falls at will onto the meal or cooking pot when in use! We had to use a spoon to scrape out all the extra salt and use a bowl of salt and our fingers for meals for the rest of the weekend. The pepper mill kept stalling and the light going off in use, I thought the enclosed batteries were faulty so put new ones in and got the same poor result. I personally would not recommend this make. Amazon were great refunding me quickly. We've now had our grinder for nearly 3 years and it's finally died so we're contemplating a replacement. It's major plus/selling point is it's ease of use i.e you just turn it upside down and it grates without the need for a button (or similar) and therefore leaves your other hand free for cooking (or whatever). There are some minor niggles, but then a lot of grinders are less than perfect. As other reviewers have said the top is very fiddly to replace (we gave up using it soon after buying it), it also doesn't hold a lot of peppercorns and is awkward to re-fill. However it's not too expensive, especially considering ours lasted nearly 3 years, but it does take 4 AA batteries so this needs to be factored into the price too.Overall we're basically happy with it's performance and will be buying the same model again, which will hopefully (?) last another 3 years.Although I have only had this a few days I can honestly say that I feel confident that this will be a good buy. With some things you can tell just by using it for a short while.I recently bought another make from Amazon which felt and sounded dodgy from day one it was returned for replacement and the replacement was just as bad so that went back too.Which is how this purchase came about. So I have something to compare.THis unit has instructions/,is easy to fit the batterys to/ easy to fill/, in use it sounds mechanically good/ and grinds efficiently. My only very minor moan is that from the picture it looks like there is a slot in the top which I had expected the ground pepper to come out of.................this isnt the case there is no slot at all,the top is actually a lid that you have to remove to allow the pepper out.So what looks like a slot is either shadow? or perhaps an older model that did have a slot? However still worth 5 stars
