I am glad to have found this on Amazon. It makes really good rotis.I have always loved Hawkins products but this one was a let down. This tawa is looking old after just two uses. The coating has disappeared. You need to put a lot of oil if you are making dosas as they get sticky. The oval shape of the tawa makes it a little unstable on the stove. I am disappointed especially as this product was not cheap and I expected a better value for money.I cooked regularly when I was in India but never came across this Tava. I owned a traditional Cast Iron tawa produced locally and also another non-stick tava. All in all this tava is better than either.It's production quality is top notch. Hawkins is a trusted brand. I had concerns about the metallic handle before I bought it. But in practice it is cool to the touch and has a clearly marked line beyond which it magically never heats up.The hard anodized cooking surface takes a little getting used to (if you are used to cast iron), but has great non-stick properties while not sacrificing the smooth surface finish that is required in a tava to be effective.This Tava is what we wanted. It is perfect witdth and really good to make rotis (chappatis). It was worth buying this from Amazon at the price that we got. Spending a few dollars extra on ordering this from Amazon is worth saving all the hassle of buying it from India and lugging it to US.Good tawa ..handle is lil smaller.This product really looks good and I was eager to use it. However,after several uses, I found it tarnished very quickly despite all efforts to maintain the shine. This was disappointing. As far as functionality, the Tava works great. You have to remember to oil it after each use.Once it’s seasoned it’s very good for dosas. Try using a cut onion and seasoning with oil on medium flame for resistant-free removal of dosas!The pan is very sturdy and use it daily for making chapatis, parathas.I have been using it for more than two years.I am planning to another Hawkins futura product,so before that I thought of reviewing this one. After using it more than 5times in a week for the last 2years ,these are what I findPros- Rotis do not stick at all- Easy to clean and maintain- Handles can be used with bare hands even when the tava is hot- Looks good even after years of using- Worth every penny spent- No scratches or peeling of layers after repeated use- Hopefully should last for a few more yearsCons- Takes long time to reach the optimum temperature to make Rotis- High flame has to be maintained throughout for cooking Rotis- cleaning can get difficult if the oil is not cleaned after every use, and also tava cannot be immediately cleaned while it's still hotOverall a good product and highly recommendedHope this review was useful for potential buyersReview Update : tried a DIY cleaning technique from youtube and it worked well. The hard anodised material survived steel wool and hard metal scraping like a charm and it is super strong, barely a scratch (photo added post cleaning). Please clean this product regularly even with tougher scrubbers or steel wool as lot of food material sticks on it with more oil usage.Original Review: Even though the product is from a brand like Futura, and advertises 5 year guarantee; it has heavily deteriorated after barely 2.5 months of usage. Please read the reviews carefully before purchasing this product.I purchased from the seller Jeram Music Centre for 28GBP and seems like a complete waste as I have to immediately buy a new one because the poor quality coating is coming off as in the pictures.It might be a case that I got a duplicate or counterfeit product. I am trying to contact the seller for a replacement as well, will update the review in case it works out.Love my new tava. It makes great Chapattis and is so easy to clean.
