When I got my car, I rebuilt, allot of it. Engine, transmission, rear differential were things I rebuilt. So after testing the fuel injectors, replacing a bad fuel pressure regulator which had a bad membrane leaking gas into the vacuum lines, and replacing gas lines that were dry rotting. I found that the lack of power and accelerator surges were related to the fuel pump... which was installed by the previous owner.... was under sized.... and not providing enough fuel. You really need a 2 inch pump for a 1996 Subaru Legacy Outback.Benefits to this pump are clear as day though. It uses cnc'ed parts. It clearly has enough power to complete the job and it's quiet. However, the rubber part does not fit 100%, but good, though, it's a good idea to zip tie the pump into place, there are included zip ties but one is not good enough for the pump as it is not long enough, as the other one should be installed to keep the wires away from chafing metal parts. This means I had to use my own zip ties. The small amount of movement can cause the rubber bushing to wear prematurely, which this pump does not deserve.I love this pump, make sure you change the strainer.
