I purchased these SafBBcue pack of two, 10” square cast iron heavy (min. 5 lbs. each) presses to replace the TWO, soon to be returned BELLEMAIN presses. My first use was on 4 hamburgers on an electric flat grill set on 450 degrees. I put one press on my largest gas burner, to get it nice and hot. After a light sear (raw hamburger meat will stick to the press) I flipped the burgers, and placed the very hot press on top of the 4 hamburgers. Voilà!”Perfectly cooked medium rare hamburgers with beautiful grill marks. Next I had two 1 1/2” T Bone steaks. Using the same flat grill and burner to heat my press, I seasoned my steaks, placed them on the flat grill just long enough to get a light sear; flipped them, again just long enough to get a light sear. Flipped both steaks and then placed my very hot press on the diagonal to cover both steaks. I used an instant read javelin thermometer (purchased on Amazon over 2 years ago) and poked through the fat side of each steak. When the temperature read was 110 degrees, I flipped my steaks and placed the press, again on the diagonal until my temperature hit 129 (steaks continue to cook and will be around 132 degrees when plated. These presses are heavy cast iron. I did not have to season them. They can be washed in warm soapy water then thoroughly dried with a dish towel. Their description says the smooth surface prevents meat from sticking. My raw meat hamburgers stuck to the hot press and came apart. My suggestion is to put a light sear on the burgers then put on the hot press. Thus far I am thrilled with these presses and will also purchase the smaller horizontal presses. The 2 BELLEMAIN presses are being returned. Their description states they are 3 lbs. NOT EVEN CLOSE! They weigh approximately 2.71 and 2.78. I thought it was my scale so I took them to the deli department of my supermarket and their scales showed the same. SafBBcue, presses are easy on the budget, heavy, well made, easy to clean, sturdy and versatile. Buy them you’ll be happy with them.
